August 2006

# August 10th through 14
July 2006 is the month to Bring the War Home to cities across the
nation with Direct Action and Civil Disobedience to shut down all metropolitan
areas. Then organizers from around the world will converge on DC August
10th through the 14th to confront the true war machine.

SHUT DOWN DC: August 10th through 14th, 2006. There will be massive
decentralized direct action against all government and corporate
entities.

The vast majority of government and corporate war profiteers are based
in DC, and its time they experience war first hand. Let's bring the war to
their homes, their offices, their parties and everywhere else they go.

As long as there is a war abroad, we must also have a war at home. With
the Iran war looming, the Iraq war lingering, and dozens of other wars
raging, it is long past time to bring the war home.

With thousands expected to descend on our fair city, mass housing, free
vegan food, and a convergence space will all be available. Mark your
calendars, tell your friends, plan to come to DC August 10th through
14th, 2006.

More information and details will be coming, and our website should be
up soon. Keep checking back for more details. In the meantime email

# Survival Research Labs (SRL) August 11, 2006 10:30 PM - 12:00 AM
Some things are purely mythic like Survival Research Labs, which springs from the shell of abandoned buildings, monster robotic history, and fire. An interdisciplinary mash-up like no other, SRL, brings a newly conceived performance to ZeroOne San Jose full of its legendary machines, flame-throwers, and bombastic sound.

# SRL August 11 in San Jose August 11, 2006 10:30 PM - 12:00 AM
Anyone heard of Survival Research Labratories? These guys are a
hoot, and they are coming to town!

If you've ever seen Seamen at BM, SRL is the authentic article.
These guys regularly get kicked out of town the night before the
event by the fire marshals. Of course, that's not going to happen on
the 11th, but the show will not be something to be missed. All the
drama of a war zone with the choreography of Cirque Du Soleil. But
bring your earplugs! A gas mask isn't a bad idea to pack if you have
one handy, but it's unlikely you would need it these days.

The last show I saw of theirs was legend, out on pier 70 in SF about
a decade ago. -Brian

# Film Arts Foundation and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts presents:
TRUE STORIES: sneak previews of new documentaries
MY CHILD: MOTHERS OF WAR
By Angeliki Giannakopoulos (2005, 94 min.)

When we hear about soldiers and casualties in war, much too often we perceive
these human beings merely as statistics. Capturing the words and emotions of
the mothers whose sons and daughters are fighting and dying in Iraq,
director Angeliki Giannakopoulos puts a human face on these soldiers in this
extraordinarily powerful portrait of love, suffering and our common
humanity.
These courageous mothers of our country¹s soldiers are still mothers of the
sons and daughters they¹ve raised for nearly two decades. Sons and daughters
they raised to play baseball, to go to the prom, to get married and have
children of their own, but not to risk their livesŠfar from home.
MY CHILD explores how these mothers manage to get through each day knowing
that bullets could be destroying the ³center of their universe.²
And then there are the other mothers. The ones whose children come back in
piecesŠor not at all. How do they carry on when their precious children
return to them, somehow less than when they last saw themŠor after the
messengers of death, dressed in uniform have shown up at their door?

Anti-Gentrification Night @ Station 40 8pm (sharp), Wed Aug 16th
Fault Lines and Indybay present an evening of anti-gentrification
entertainment & education featuring:
-a free screening of the documentary film "Boom: The Sound of
Eviction" and a discussion with co-director A. Mark Liiv, Lupe Arreola
from St. Peter's Housing Committee, and members of the Defend Bayview
Hunter's Point coalition.

When: 8pm (sharp), Wednesday August 16th
Where: Station 40, 3030 B 16th St (at Mission St, across from BART)
Price: Free!

Details:
Boom: The Sound of Eviction—(Directed by Francine Cavanaugh, A. Mark
Liiv, and Adams Wood) By turns humorous and scathing, this potent
social critique explores the effects of the recent Dot-com boom and
bust on community displacement and gentrification in the San Francisco
Bay Area, with a focus on the Latino Mission District. Features
interviews with dot-com workers, developers, the Mayor, and the
community that challenged their new economic order. Here's what the LA
Times said about Boom: "Witty, poignant and impassioned . . .
implications for every big city in America." Co-director A. Mark Liiv
will be present for Q & A http://www.boomthemovie.org

Lupe Arreola from St. Peters Housing Committe will be talking about
the roots of gentrification in San Francisco, and about the current
causes of gentrification in the Mission District (and other
neighborhoods). Lupe will also talk about how through Mission
Anti-Displacement Coalition—which is featured in the
movie—anti-gentrification advocates were able to get a moratorium on
market rate housing that will be in effect until 2007.

Defend Bayview-Hunters Point is a broad grassroots coalition of
long-time BVHP community, environmental, civil rights leaders and
organizations, tenants, small neighborhood businesses, and homeowners
working for the betterment of the community. Members of this coalition
will be discussing their plan to stop the Redevelopment Scam in BVHP.

# Taking Aim Bulletin August 3, 2006 ? Event August 17 in Berkeley
Please spread the word - distribute widely
Ralph Schoenman and Mya Shone discuss: Apocalypse Now - The U.S. and
Israeli Master Plan for the Middle East.

Also, to be shown for the first time in the Bay Area: "The War in Lebanon:
An Inside View" including harrowing photos of the 1982 Sabra and Shatila
Massacre.

Thursday, August 17 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship Hall, 1924 Cedar St., at Bonita Berkeley, CA,. $10 suggested
donation. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. For more information
call 707.552.9992 or write takingaim@pacbell.net

Ralph Schoenman and Mya Shone, producers of the national radio show “Taking
Aim,” present a dramatic exposé of the current wave of U.S. coordinated and
Israeli mass slaughter in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon. They discuss in
compelling and heart-rending detail the U.S. and Israeli murderous agenda,
its timetable and the collusion of client Arab regimes in targeting the
peoples of the region.

From Rafah to, Ramallah and Nablus, from Bint Jbail, Tyre, Sidon and Beirut
to Tripoli, from 1947, 1967 to 1982 and now, an ongoing genocide has been
unleashed – part of a plan to visit the identical agony on the people of
Syria, Iran, Iraq and the region.

This murderous agenda proceeds under the cover of the false category of
terror for which 9/11 was planned, implemented and orchestrated by the U.S.
ruling class and its Israeli cohorts.

Heralded authors of “The Hidden History of Zionism,” “Prisoners of Israel”
and “Homage to Palestine,” Schoenman and Shone, reveal through first hand
testimony and shocking visuals the wholesale massacre and mass expulsion
that emptied Palestine of its population in 1948 and was repeated in an
identical operation in Lebanon in 1982.

In 1982-83, Schoenman and Shone lived in the Palestinian refugee camps as
these were reduced to rubble. They documented the round-up by the Israeli
invaders of males from ages 7 to 70 across Lebanon and took 6,000 affidavits
from the victims’ families. They witnessed and made a photo record of the
mass murder and the mass graves from Ain El Helweh, Rashidieh, Bourj al
Burajneh to Sabra and Shatila in Beirut.

Schoenman and Shone draw from their experiences in Palestine and Lebanon,
their testimony presented to the United Nations, Foreign Ministers and to
the Nordic Commission in Oslo, Norway as well as their years of advocacy on
behalf of the Palestinian struggle for self-determination.

Ralph Schoenman was Secretary General of the International Tribunal on U.S.
War Crimes in Indochina. He worked with Malcolm X with respect to the battle
for the Congo and has negotiated the release of political prisoners in many
countries. He was the Executive Director of the Committee in Defense of the
Palestinian and Lebanese Peoples and the Committee for a Democratic and
Secular Palestine. He is the author of “The Hidden History of Zionism,”
“Iraq and Kuwait: A History Suppressed,” and co-authored with Mya Shone
“Prisoners of Israel” (report for the United Nations) and “Homage to
Palestine.” Ralph Schoenman and Mya Shone co-produce “Taking Aim with Ralph
Schoenman and Mya Shone” heard weekly on Pacifica’s WBAI-NY and nationally
on the Progressive Radio Network.

Mya Shone is an economist and has a long history as an activist involved in
political, community and labor issues. She worked closely with Casa
Nicaragua and Casa El Salvador during the struggles taking place in Central
America, was the coordinator of the Tri-County (Santa Barbara, Ventura, San
Luis Obispo) Labor Party chapter and co-coordinator of the Open World
Conference in Defense of Trade Union Independence and Democratic Rights. She
was the coordinator of the Committee in Defense of the Palestinian and
Lebanese Peoples and the Committee for a Democratic and Secular Palestine.
Mya Shone was also an award-winning documentary filmmaker as well as a
newscaster at KPFK in Los Angeles.

available from Veritas Press – see http://www.takingaim.info and Amazon.com)

In 1938, David Ben Gurion, who became the first Prime Minister of the
Israeli state, wrote in a letter to his son: "A partial Jewish State is not
the end, but only the beginning. I am certain that we can not be prevented
from settling in the other parts of the country and the region."

In 1937, he declaimed: "The boundaries of Zionist aspirations are the
concern of the Jewish people and no external factor will be able to limit
them."

In 1938, he was more explicit: "The boundaries of Zionist aspirations," he
told the World Council of Poale Zion in Tel Aviv, "include southern Lebanon,
southern Syria, today's Jordan, all of Cis-Jordan [the West Bank] and the
Sinai."

INFAMOUS CIRCUS KILLING SPREE CONTINUES
Ringling Kills 4 Baby Elephants In 8 Years
Bertha dead at a few months of age.
September 2005: Ringling did not announce Bertha's birth or death.

Riccardo dead at 8 months of age.
August 4, 2004: Ringling claims he fell off a 19-inch-high-round platform. After making Riccardo suffer all night with two broken legs, Ringling took him to a hospital the next morning where x-rays revealed "severe and irreparable fractures." Riccardo was killed that day.

Benjamin dead at 4 years of age.
1999: Drowned in a pond while attempting to avoid "trainer" Pat Harned, who witnesses said "poked" Benjamin with an ankus. A USDA investigator concluded that seeing and/or being "touched" or "poked" by Harned with an ankus caused physical harm and lead to Benjamin's death. This incident was videotaped but Ringling requested the USDA not release it to the public.

Kenny dead at 3 years of age.
1998: Ringling elephant "trainers" Gunther Gebel-Williams and Mark Gebel, against veterinarian orders, forced Kenny, who was bleeding from his rectum, to perform. Kenny died later that day after passing a large amount of blood from his rectum.

Ringling routinely uses ropes and chains to separate 18-month-old-baby elephants from their mothers. USDA told Ringling that this practice violates Federal law; Ringling defended it calling it "industry standard."

In the wild female elephants never leave their mothers; males leave at about age 13-15 years.

Chained Most of Their Lives
Elephants in the wild can roam up to 50 miles a day. Ringling keeps elephants chained by 1 front and 1 back leg for most of their lives; the rest of the time they are confined in small barren pens in parking lots.

# Jerry McNerney for Congress
Dear Friends,

Please help save our country (and the planet).

This November we have an excellent opportunity to replace one of our worst Congressmen with a man of high integrity and strong environmental values. Jerry McNerney, a wind energy specialist, is challenging Richard Pombo, an anti-environmental zealot, for the Congressional seat representing San Ramon, Pleasanton, Lodi, Tracy, and most of Stockton.

Please join us at a fundraiser for Jerry McNerney in Palo Alto:

Sunday, August 20, 6:30pm – 8:00pm
At the home of Tom & Sharon Wagner
914 Matadero Court, Palo Alto

Jerry McNerney is the perfect candidate to take on Pombo. In the late 1970s, Dr. McNerney recognized our country’s need for a diversified energy supply and changed careers to serve that need. His innovations helped create the wind power industry we know today.

In 2004, Jerry recognized another need and took action. He ran against Pombo and did better than any challenger in that district since 1994. Jerry never stopped campaigning, and in a hard-fought primary this year, Jerry won a three-way race with 52.6% of the vote, getting almost twice as many votes as his main opponent, who outspent him 2-to-1.

Jerry wants to lead the nation away from the grip of foreign oil and transform the district into the “Silicon Valley of renewable energy.” This is our chance to make a real difference, in one of the key races nationwide.

Please join Jerry at an event hosted by Tom and Sharon Wagner at their lovely solar home in Palo Alto. Jerry looks forward to sharing his views and hearing what is important to each of you.

Sunday August 20, 6:30pm – 8:00pm
At the home of Tom & Sharon Wagner
914 Matadero Court, Palo Alto
Supporter: $100
Student/Low Income: $35

Event Sponsors: Peter Drekmeier and Carolyn Curtis
Please RSVP to Don Mayall – seleve@ix.netcom.com – 650-856-7579.

If you are unable to attend, but would like to volunteer or contribute to Jerry’s campaign, please visit http://www.jerrymcnerney.org or mail your donation to McNerney for Congress, PO Box 12022, Pleasanton, CA 94588.

# September 8 - 21 Announcing Camp Democracy
Announcing Camp Democracy
Cindy Sheehan to Move Camp to National Mall
Cindy Sheehan and activists in the growing peace movement plan to
move Camp Casey to the National Mall in Washington, D.C., September
8 - 21. The camp on the Mall will carry the name Camp Democracy at
Fort Fed Up. Organizers intend the camp to bring together peace
activists with activists for social justice, united in demanding a
shift of public resources from war to the needs of people.
Participants will lobby Congress to end all funding of the
occupation of Iraq, and will demand that Congress hold the Bush
Administration accountable for the falsehoods that launched the war
and the abuses of power here at home that have accompanied it. Camp
Democracy is launching an outreach effort to include organizations
in the planning of the camp's activities, which are all in the
initial stages. Organizations already on board are listed on the
website:
http://campdemocracy.org
Participating organizations and guest experts and celebrities will
provide workshops and training sessions on a wide range of issues,
as well as on communications, voter registration, nonviolent civil
disobedience, lobbying, organizing, media production, and
performance arts. Congress Members and congressional candidates will
take part. Local elected officials will instruct attendees on
participation in local government. Musicians will perform concerts.
New films will be shown on a large screen. Participants will acquire
useful skills while demanding fundamental change.

This is from a founder of Veterans for 9/11 Truth http://www.V911T.org
This Sept 11, 2006 a new era will dawn on America. On that day the
people will convene and move through the legal recourse needed to
redress the government. At no other time in our nations history has so
important a moment drawn near. As the war of lies passes the $500
Billion debt mark and 3000 US dead along with 100,000's in the nation
we "saved", as freedom and liberty has been sold out to a federal
police force, as all Americans have been affected by corporate and
limited liability governments and municipal codes, time has come for

Three weeks ago Israeli jets bombed an oil-fired power station at Jiyyeh in Lebanon, dumping thousands of tonnes of oil into the ocean. Israel’s blockade of the area has made clean-up impossible. The oil spreads unchecked along the palm-dotted shore of the Mediterranean Sea, coating tourist beaches, destroying vegetation, slaughtering endangered sea-turtles and threatening the survival of several species of fish and seabirds.

Lou Dobbs Wakes Up to 9/11 Lies
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahv3VdknyZ4
C'mon people..even Lou Dobbs is waking up to the fact that we are being lied to about 9/11 and that we need a fresh, new independent investigation. Why did it take five years for these reports to come out? NORAD and the DoD have given us SEVEN DIFFERENT TIMELINES of the air response (or lack thereof.) Why should we automatically believe the other aspects of the "official" story? I don't think we should.

Israel Asks U.S. to Ship Rockets With Wide Blast

"The goal of legalizing drugs is to bring them under effective legal control. If it were legal to produce and distribute drugs, legitimate businessmen would enter the business. There would be less need for violence and corruption since the industry would have access to the courts. And, instead of absorbing tax dollars as targets of expensive enforcement efforts, the drug sellers might begin to pay taxes. So, legalization might well solve the organized crime aspects of the drug trafficking problem. On average, drug use under legalization might not be as destructive to users and to society as under the current prohibition, because drugs would be less expensive, purer, and more conveniently available."

"Everything is destroyed by its own particular vice:
the destructive power resides within.
Rust destroys iron, moths destroy clothes,
the worm eats away the wood;
but greatest of all evils is envy,
impious habitant of corrupt souls,
which ever was, is, and shall be a consuming disease."
